One Year of Healing, Hope, and Recovery at Turning Point Behavioral Health

A year ago, Turning Point Behavioral Health opened its doors in Madison, South Dakota, with one clear purpose, to help individuals and families find freedom from addiction, rebuild their lives, and rediscover purpose through person-centered care.

Today, we celebrate our one-year anniversary and reflect on a year of courage and transformation that has changed lives across South Dakota.

A Year of Recovery and Impact

Since opening, Turning Point has supported more than 50 individuals on their recovery journey, helping each person find purpose, and confidence in sobriety.

“This milestone isn’t just about our organization it’s about every person who’s had the courage to start again,” said Tanner Grimsley, Executive Director and Lead Counselor. “Helping more than 50 individuals take meaningful steps toward lasting recovery reminds us why we do this work every day.”

Through evidence-based addiction treatment and individualized recovery plans, Turning Point has become a trusted behavioral health provider for patients, families, and community partners. Our team’s holistic approach goes beyond addressing the symptoms of substance abuse. Instead, we focus on uncovering the root causes of addiction and helping people rebuild healthier lives from the inside out.

Real People, Real Transformation

Behind every success story is someone who made the brave decision to ask for help.

Liliana, a Turning Point alum, shared how her experience gave her the tools to start fresh and pursue her goals. “After I left the Turning Point, it was rough getting back into everyday life—but I pushed through,” she said. “I am now working toward my bachelor’s degree in Science Education. I’ve been sober since I left Turning Point. It wasn’t easy, but I wanted to do something with myself—and I got it done.”

For Taylor, recovery began the moment she stepped through Turning Point’s doors, a decision that would completely change the course of her life. “My time at Turning Point completely exceeded any expectations I had,” she said. “I was finally given answers as to why my life had become unmanageable and the tools I needed to turn it around. I’m now six months sober, and I’m happy, confident, and proud of who I’ve become.”

Stories like these show what Turning Point stands for: real people finding real recovery. Our staff understands that recovery isn’t just about staying sober. It’s about rediscovering who you are and creating a life that feels worth living.

A Community Celebration

To celebrate our first year, Turning Point Behavioral Health invites the community to join a one-year anniversary lunch on Thursday, October 16, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at West Center Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall), 322 West Center Street, Madison, SD.

The event will include hors d’oeuvres, cake, reflections from the past year, and opportunities to reconnect with staff, alumni, and community partners who have made Turning Point’s mission possible.

Looking Ahead to Year Two

As Turning Pointe moves into our second year, our focus remains clear, to continue expanding access to addiction treatment and mental health services across North and South Dakota.

The team will keep partnering with healthcare providers, referral sources, and local leaders to help more people begin their path to recovery. In addition, Turning Point plans to strengthen its aftercare programs and community partnerships, ensuring that every person who walks through our doors has the support needed to succeed long after treatment ends.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse or mental health challenges, know that there is hope and help right here in Madison, SD.
